A little bit about the Awards:
The eircom Golden Spiders - Recognising Excellence in Internet & Digital Media
The eircom Golden Spider Awards are an annual event honouring Irish individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online and celebrating the successes of the Irish internet and digital media.
The awards not only reward Irish businesses and community organisations but also individuals for their creativity and innovation. The eircom Golden Spiders provide an important opportunity to recognise and showcase online excellence and are considered an important benchmark for distinction and merit in web-based business strategies. This year’s 20 categories range from “Internet Hero” to the overall “Grand Prix”, acknowledging the achievements across a wide range of industries - including Media, Entertainment, Sports & Leisure, Finance, Retail, Professional Services, Travel, Tourism & Hospitality and e-Business.
Although the eircom Golden Spiders have a strong business slant, the awards also recognise the importance of promoting internet usage within the community and award an accolade for “Best Community or Charity Website”.
2007 also saw the expansion of the “People’s Choice Award”. The general public were given an opportunity to nominate and vote for their favourite Social Networking and Community Website. This new People’s Choice Vote provided an interesting insight into what Irish Internet users thought about social networking and community sites.
The eircom Golden Spiders also introduced an award for “Young Talent of the Year” to recognise excellence in young innovative talent and providing an opportunity to excel within the industry.
The awards were judged by a prestigious panel of experts, comprised of leaders from industry, commerce, media and academia. The panel evaluates entries on a diverse range of judging criteria including content, structure & navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity as well as overall user experience. The eircom Golden Spider Awards are managed by Business & Finance Media Group, publisher of Business & Finance and Magill magazine and owners of needavenue.ie, Ireland’s first independent website dedicated to corporate conferencing and events in Ireland.
Business & Finance Media Group also manages a number of other prestigious events, including, the Business & Finance Awards, the Business & Finance US-Ireland Awards, the Business & Finance Asia/Pacific-Ireland Awards, the Bord Gáis Energy National Media Awards, the International Financial Services Summit, the KPMG Financial Services Excellence Awards, the Magill Politician of the Year Awards and the eircom Junior Spider Awards.

SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL IRISH HAIRDRESSING BUSINESS AWARDS “Website of the Year” Category
Posted in General by admin
We were delighted that our client Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty was short listed for the final of the Schwarzkopf Hairdressing awards in the category “Website of the year” and “Munster Salon of the Year”. Printing.ie designed and developed Sean Taaffe’s website in July 2009 along with his new logo and identity.
With over 2,500 salons in Ireland, hairdressing has firmly established itself as big business, and the Schwarzkopf Irish Hairdressing Business Awards are considered the Oscars of the hairdressing industry in Ireland.
Sean Taaffe, Salon Director of Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty said “It is a great honour for us to win “Munster Salon of the Year” at the Schwarzkopf Irish Hairdressing Business Awards. It is a credit to the dedicated team in our salon, and the hard work they put in daily. We are proud of what we have achieved to date, and this is the icing on the cake!”
The event took place in the Shelbourne hotel on the 12th October! Over 300 people attended the event. Unfortunately Sean did not win the Website category, but he did win Munster Salon of the Year. Well done Sean you deserve it, aged 35 and 20 years as a salon owner, yes 20 years. He has two salons, one in Killarney and one in his hometown of Killorglin, County Kerry.
The hard working team at Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty are no strangers to awards, and the fact that the salon has been awarded five star status from the independent Good Salon Guide, and that it has been nominated for a Global Salon Business Award, mean their place in the final is well and truly deserved.
For further information or to book your appointment now, call Sean Taaffe Killarney on 1850 TAAFFE (822333) or Sean Taaffe Killorglin on 066 9761869. Please visit the website http://www.seantaaffe.com or email hair@seantaaffe.com

Douglas win Parish League…in 1991.
Posted in General by admin
I just got this great image from Patrick Costello (red top in the back row). This is the victorious Douglas GAA team that defeated “Over Laune” in the Killorglin Parish League Final in 1991.
The Parish League is where the local national schools and their catchment areas put a team into the Parish league. Everyone of all ages can play as long as you are not on the Laune Rangers A team.
If there was a position outside of “Rank Outsiders” then we were just below it. We battled and I do mean battled every game to get to the final and we beat the favourites of the tournament. I’d love to say we hammered them but it was only four points.
It was the first time in 20 years they ran the league and 1991 was the last time they ran the competition because of all the teams kicking the hell out of each other, local pride and all that. It is rumored to start again this year after eighteen years. If you visit Killorglin on any weekend and visit Clifford’s Bar, you will find many drinking athletes (beer belly for speed adjustment) boasting to all the younger and fitter players, “Say what you want, but Douglas are the reigning Parish League Champions”. Local pride and honour will never die…
So why is all this important, well. This is the image that we have selected to go up on our meeting room wall, all 6 x 2.5 metres of it on our new digitally printed wallpaper. Another important point is I’m the goalkeeper, Stephen O’Sullivan.

Cavan Minor team of 1959
Posted in General by adminI know this is nothing to do with printing, but I was emailed this image and story recently and I thought it was very good.
The story goes….The Cavan Minor team of 1959 recently held their 50-year anniversary to commemorate their All Ireland final appearance of that year. Most of the team are still alive, but one of the players, reported to be dead in The Anglo Celt the previous week (info came from one of the organisers, who was a team member) turned up at the function. Turns out he was living as a wino, down and out for 40 odd years in London and SOMEHOW got wind of the function and landed to it.
See if you can pick him out from the photos…

Personality Test Analysis based on a Pig!
Posted in General by admin | Tags: business, fun, Persontality test, team building
I know this is a little out of the ordinary. What is a “Personality Test Analysis” doing in the Printing.ie Blog. Well a colleague of mine (thanks Alison) emailed me this a few years ago. Anytime I did it with the staff over the years it worked out very well and it was a great way to get new staff joining in and having fun with the existing team.
Get everyone together and give them an A4 sheet of paper and a pen. It’s very simple just ask them to draw a “Pig” anywhere they want on the sheet. Once finished, get them to put down their pens and read out what is on the Personality Test Analysis Sheet. I’ve uploaded it as a PDF, click just below to download the file. The results are very good and it will make the staff laugh.
Enjoy.

Another set of images out of the archives. They are from when we opened our Tralee office in 2007. Former Tánaiste Dick Spring was kind enough to perform the official opening.

Blast from the Past, Killarney Office Opening!

I dug these images out of the archives. They are from when we opened our Killarney office in 2003. Jackie Lavin and Bill Cullen from TV3’s “The Apprentice” were kind enough to do the honours and perform the official opening. The extra space from this new office move allowed us to enter the wide format printing marketplace. Also pictured are Stephen and Sinead O’Sullivan, directors of the company.
